What we collect when you visit, subscribe, or write to us — and the much longer list of what we do not.
At a glance
No advertising pixels, no behavioral tracking, no lists for sale. Our analytics do not use cookies. Your card number never passes through our hands. The only list we share is the one that puts the magazine in your mailbox.
Elk River Living is a free monthly magazine serving the communities along the Elk River in West Virginia. This site is operated by CJT Publishing, LLC of Elkview, West Virginia 25071, its publisher. When this policy says “we,” “us,” or “ERL,” it means CJT Publishing, LLC.
We keep this simple on purpose: we are a small, family-run publication, and we collect as little as we can.
If you write to us through the form on our home page, we receive the name, email address, and message you enter. We use it to answer you and, if your note leads to something ongoing — a story, an ad, a subscription — to keep that conversation going.
When you buy an annual subscription, we receive your name, email address, and the mailing address we need to send the magazine.
If you contact us about advertising, or submit a story, photograph, recipe, or letter for possible publication, we receive whatever you send us along with the contact details you provide.
We use Fathom Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how many people visit the site and which pages they read. Fathom is a privacy-focused service: it does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not build a profile of you. We see counts and trends, not individuals.
Our host, Webflow, keeps standard server logs, which can include IP addresses, for security and reliability.
Subscription payments are processed by Stripe and PayPal. Your card number is entered directly into their systems. We never see, handle, or store your full card number. We receive only confirmation that a payment succeeded, plus the order details we need to mail you the magazine.
We do not use cookies for advertising or for tracking you across the web.
Some parts of the site are embedded from other companies, and those companies may set their own cookies when their content loads:
Each is governed by that company's own privacy policy, not ours. Links out to Issuu, where our past issues live, and to Facebook, Instagram, and any advertiser or partner site are likewise governed by those sites' policies.
We do not sell your information, and we do not rent or trade our subscriber or advertiser lists.
We share information only with the services that make the magazine work, and only what each needs to do its job:
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. Beyond that, we do not share it with anyone.
Contact form messages stay in our email inbox. We use them to reply to you, and for nothing else. If your message leads to something ongoing — a subscription, an advertisement, material you are contributing — we keep the details that activity requires, because you asked us to. Otherwise it remains simply a message we answered.
Subscriber records are kept for the life of the subscription, and afterward as part of our business records.
Published material is kept indefinitely. Once an issue is printed it becomes part of the magazine's archive.
You can ask us at any time to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and we will do so unless we are required to keep it. If you subscribe and would rather not hear from us between issues, tell us and we will stop. Write to info@elkriverliving.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state or national privacy law. We will honor those requests regardless of where you live.
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Elk River Living regularly features local students and school activities; when we publish a photograph or story involving a minor, we do so with permission from a parent, guardian, or the school.
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, and we rely on established providers — Webflow, Stripe, PayPal — for the parts that matter most. No website can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise.
If we change this policy we will post the revised version here and update the date at the top of the page.
